Instructions for Auto Tanner using PARA-TAN

1. Rehydrate dry salted skin.

2. Mix a pickle (citric acid) 3oz per gallon of water, and 1 lb. of salt to each gallon of water. Use enough solution to float skins, and pressurize tanner. Ph around 2.0.

3. Pickle skin for a minimum of 2 hours prior to shaving and thinning the skin. Thicker skins may need more time. Once ready to shave after skin has plumped in pickle then go ahead and thin.

4. Once finished and if satisfied with pickle and shaving, remove pickle from tanner then mix your tan. In the auto tanner, use enough water to semi float skins (2-3 gal), mix 1/2 lb of salt per gallon of water and add 1 oz of PARA TAN for each 1lb of drained skin weight. Example: 5 lbs of skin weight will take 5 oz of PARA TAN. Mix well and add skins, pressurize and tan. Run skins for 4 hours in PARA TAN pull drain and add baking soda approximately 1 oz per gallon of water. Place skin in solution and run for 1 to 2 hours pull and drain well. You will want the Ph of the skin to be at 4.5 to 5.0.

5. After draining, either by hanging skin for 4 to 6 hours or spinning in a washing machine to extract the water, you need to oil it with TANNING OIL #1 by Knoblochs. Just warm the softening oil and apply to the flesh side of the skin.

6. This process will provide a nice soft white leather that will have excellent shelf life.
