KT TAN 1. Re-hydrate skins in a solution of ¼ lb of salt per gallon, the use of Relax R can also be used to aid the process. Neutralizing 3. Once the shaving and pickling process is complete drain skins well, raise and adjust ph of skins up to 4.1 by adding a small amount of baking soda ½ to 1 oz per gallon of fresh water and ½ lb of salt. Let skins soak for approximately 30 min and stir them in solution. Pull and drain well once finished. Tanning 4. Make sure the ph of the skin is around 4.1 and once they are drained well weigh the skins. Use 3% of KT Tan by skin weight. Example for every 2 lbs of skin use 1 oz of KT Tan or ½ oz of KT tan per 1 lb of skin weight. You will want enough water in a solution to float and submerse the skins, for 5 lbs of skins use 2.5 gallons of water and ½ lb of salt per gallon of bath. Oiling 5. Pull skins from tan and open up to hang and start drying. Dry overnight or a minimum of 6 to 8 hours and apply Knoblochs TANNING OIL #1 for a softening oil.
