To each one gallon of water add the following

NOTE: If the skins are to be tanned with Liqua Tan, the pH of the skin must be raised after pickling and shaving, prior to tanning. Use baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate). Raise pH gradually, to a level between 4.5 and 5.0 pH, over a fifteen minute period. If the skins are to be tanned with Para Tan, a rinse in a salt solution of 1/2 lb. of salt per gallon of water for ten minutes prior to adding skins to the tanning bath.
